As you all know summer can be a very fun time of year.  All the golfers gather to enjoy the course and make new memories with dear friends.  As we enjoy the outdoors it is important to remember that proper hydration is important when we are exposed to the heat of the summer sun. Make sure you drink plenty of water. The sun's heat, especially when combined with alcohol causes the body to lose hydration. This makes it especially important to drink a large glass of water between each alcohol-containing beverage. Proper choices in clothing can also assist you in the heat.  Wear light colors and a hat to shield the sun from your face. Wear at least a 45 SPF sun block on all exposed areas of the skin.

A great example was set by Club Pro Dave Smith when he chose not only fashionable but also weather smart golf attire.  He is shown in a photo returning to the Clubhouse to get that glass of water to ensure he did not become dehydrated while out on the course.

A not so good example was set by Evan Heatherly, who wore a purple tie dyed shirt that not only attracted sun and insects, but also made it difficult for the other golfers to concentrate while witnessing such a fashion disaster.

Remember it is up to all of us to set a good example. If you witness someone not practicing healthful living, it is your responsibility to provide education for your fellow FarmGolfers. So don’t forget this Sunday to drink plenty of water, shade yourself as much as possible, wear light colored fashionable clothing, and as always laugh often, it is the best medicine!
