The Grantsmanship Club of Cypress
Thursday, May 31, 2007
Gentlemen:
You have inspired me.
As a former farmer (that’s hard to say) for 25 years here in the Pee Dee area of South Carolina, and life-long average golfer, I was intrigued by your course after stumbling across the link a few years ago. So in 2004, with help of my sons and son-in-laws (also known as the Executive Committee), I constructed my first green here on my property behind my home---a 2000 sq. ft. Mini Verde Bermuda green.
Since that time, 4 more greens have been added.
The ‘course’ has eleven tee boxes, which allows the golfer to play 18 holes, hitting only 3 duplicate tee shots. Hole lengths run from 53 yds. (requiring a punched 7 iron under a pecan tree), to 197 yds.
Players have a 5 club maximum with 7 iron as the longest club. Two holes are played as par fours, using the 7 iron from the tee and hitting to a fairway, leaving a 40-60 yd. pitch if all goes well. 56 is par for 18 holes. The holes are regulation sized and the greens are maintained at 5/32”. They are irrigated as well. Lots of upkeep, but it keeps my hands in the soil. It has become a passion.
Eleven traps are strategically placed around the greens.
We’ve had a few tournaments and family events, with pictures and highlights available at www.thegrantsmanship.com. A new clubhouse was recently built, complete with pool table, bar, and projection DirecTV (Golf Channel!).
I’ve had the website live for a month now using Google Pages, and am still looking for the right layout--note the self-made bumpy YouTube videos that look like they were taken by an intoxicated cameraman---they were not, by the way. I invite you to take a look and please comment if you’d like. Any suggestions are welcome.
Also, please feel free to come by and play if you happen this way.
By the way--your course is beautiful--love the aerial pictures.
Website is quite cool as well.
